I thought it was time to give some thought to what the Doctor-assistant relationship is, what function the assistant has on the show, how Doctor Who distributes personal qualities by gender, and why I now hate this lovely show that I used to love.Damn, this rings true and it breaks my (1) heart.

So I just read the ‘whovianconfessions’ tumblr for a bit. And … is there anyone left who actually still likes Moffat?
I mean, I’ve had lots of opinions on Moffat from the very start, and I stopped watching after the first half of season 6, so I’m clear where I stand. And I’m clear where the people I hang out with in fandom stand. But reading whovianconfessions, I got the feeling that the discontentment has spread to people who never cared much about queer/female representation, or about who was running the show when.
Sure, there’s still a bunch of folks who are head over heels for the show the way Moffat does it, but I feel like that percentage has shrunk by a lot. And the criticisms I see are mostly that the show has ‘lost something’, that there’s little emotional continuity and/or depth, and few clearly defined moral/ethic themes. Mostly these complaints aren’t even framed in an argument about bad representation of minorities, but are just a general reaction of ‘meh’ towards the edutainment value of Moffat’s Who.
It’s 79 AD, 23rd of August, which makes Volcano Day tomorrow.
I love that Ten lists the TARDIS as a reason why he’s right, and Donna’s just like, screw that, I’m Donna, I don’t need anything else to win this argument.
